So, after three years of practice in Tokyo, I came back to Kyoto again in order to become a teacher, I decided to live here and I established my own office in Kyoto too. I wanted to be a contemporary architect, but, by chance, one day a colleague of mine invited me to teach in Kyoto. You know, Tokyo is a contemporary city, everything is moving and there you feel as you can do everything. I graduated from Kyoto University but I began working in Tokyo. The office is located in the heart of Kyoto, one step from the main market of the city, two steps from the river that divides the town from North to South. We couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the year than with the return of Warung with this incredible EP.When I meet Waro Kishi in his office, it’s the week before the announced beginning of the Hanami, the explosion of the cherry blossoms in the streets, and the whole Japan is waiting for this moment. In other words, get ready for some goosebumps. The track is deep and melancholic yet pensive and delightful. With a distorted vocal resembling that of a dancefloor confessional, topped with emotive keys and intriguing drones, complete with a serendipitous breakdown. “Lifeline" is a journey in and of itself. "Loathing in Dub" is a pure tune that can easily fit into a deep house set, grounded with gritty stabs, and synths that can make any poolside party groove with joy. The title track “In My Mind” pulls you into the unique hypnotic world of Warung, with an infectious baseline, and airy vocals that loop in your head interspersed with images of happy dancing people with hands in the air in a smoke-filled club. Aside from handling remix duties for Wolf Story & Dantiez Saunderson’s “Peak” for Yoshitoshi, the pair has made some notable drops, including a collaboration with Nox Vahn on Above & Beyond’s Anjunadeep imprint. Since their debut on Yoshitoshi with “Memora” on last year’s Four Points IV EP, Boston-based production duo Warung has been on a rapid rise. Supported by Deep Dish on their livestreams.
